GRID Alternatives Women’s Install

Education Coordinator Jasmine Orozco had seen Workforce and Volunteer Manager Cynthia Corrales of Generating Renewable Ideas for Development (GRID) Alternatives at many environmental education trainings and on a fateful day they connected to see how the two entities could collaborate on solar projects in the Inland Empire (IE).
GRID Alternatives is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has fantastic opportunities for young people to participate in builds if they are over the age of 17 years old, training programs for veterans, and help low income families attain renewable energy.
Inland Empire Resource Conservation District’s Education Team participated in an IE WE Build on July 19th as part of the Women in Solar Program. Female team members from IERCD and GRID Alternatives as well as community volunteers worked together in true “Rosie the Riveter” fashion to install solar panels on the roof of a home in Rialto. The solar panels will save the homeowners an estimated $42,042 over the system’s lifetime and offset 86.4 tons of carbon.
After the installation Cynthia Corrales said, “Thank you so much for coming out and sweating with us out at the construction site. We had such a blast building alongside your team.”
It was exciting to install solar panels with GRID Alternatives! What an unforgettable experience that the IERCD Education Team will share with students and their teachers while presenting our Energy Conservation programs.
