Conserving Important Habitats in Perpetuity: Pebble Plain

IERCD holds a number of conservation easements within the District's boundaries that protect important habitats in perpetuity. For example, IERCD is working with the San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust and the Big Bear Valley Education Trust to protect approximately 166 acres of endemic Pebble Plain habitat, a highly specialized ecosystem with miniature native plants growing on a plain of quartzite pebbles. Located in Big Bear, this sensitive pebble plain habitat is under threat from off-road vehicles and illegal wood collection. IERCD and its partners have worked to protect these habitats through the purchase and perpetuity conservation of these areas and the installation of fencing and improved signage.
