Enhancing and Restoring Important Ecosystems: Goose Creek

IERCD works to restore, enhance and conserve a variety of important habitats within the District's boundaries. For example, IERCD is working to enhance the riparian ecosystem in Goose Creek, a critical habitat for Least Bells Vireo and other species of concern located adjacent to the Santa Ana River east of the 15 freeway. IERCD carries out a number of restoration and enhancement activities over the 45-acre conservation easement to improve the health of this habitat. Activities include planting willow and cottonwood trees, removing of invasive plants like giant cane, and monitoring of an invasive beetle, the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer.
